homeware love....

I love homewares, I could spend all day everyday up to my elbows in a homewares shop. I don't think a home goddess can ever have too many homewares! Homewares are so versatile - you can change the look of a room in an instant with homeware pieces and the changing pieces themselves don't have to be expensive to provide an impact within a room.

I was reading a home style magazine the other night and one of the best tips to styling your home, was to paint the interior of your house a neutral palette, which allows you to change the way a room looks with homewares and accessories - such a simple idea and yet so effective. A white room can be made to look very french provinicial with the addition of linens and shabby chic fabrics. The same room can then ooze grandure with the addition of darker furniture and shiny metallic accessories, yet the same wall colours remain. The different styling options you can give a room are endless!

So what can you do to make a difference to your home without breaking your budget? Here's some tips, ideas and websites to get you started...

TIP - Light - let it in! Opening curtains, taking down blinds, pulling off old curtain racks - letting light in is one of the best things you can do for a room and if it's not possible to let all that light in, then there's always lamps too - brightening a small space with a lamp and more light makes any space more inviting.

TIP - Paint! Painting is the easiest way to change a room and I love Dulux Hogsbristle - it comes in different strengths and is a fabulous neutural colour with a warm tone to it. We love this colour so much we're painting all our interior rooms in it - we're halfway through so far and it looks great.

Another favourite paint colour is dulux White duck with Whisper white trim. I love the headboard (another project for our bed to do) and the dark floors and furniture. Can you tell I like neutral colours?!

If you don't want to paint there is always beautiful wallpaper - this is a favourite pattern of mine from Amy Butler's line - I want to add this to our bedroom wall as a feature but aren't sure about the size of the print - our rooms don't have overly high ceilings. But I do love the colour and any house with Amy in it has got to be stylish!

I love this paper because it's BOLD - (TIP!) make a statement about your space and give your space some of your personality - it's your home and your space after all....

Add the small personal things to your room too - the travel cards you've collected, old photographs you cherish - anything really;  granny's old tea cups look great as displays too....show your personal style with your personal effects.

IDEAS AND SITES:
Home styling can be a tricky task; trying to match pieces to your room, mood, functional requirements, family needs, etc. There are so many blogs and lovely websites out there which provide an array of 'diy'/'how tos' on styling and redecorating the home.

www.paintmewhite.com
One of my favourite blogs is 'Paint Me White' - Sandy restores beautiful furniture and sells it from her lovely store in Brisbane...a beautiful blog full of inspiration and her 'shop' page will make you swoon over all the lovely pieces she has for sale  ♥

I also love 'Bright.Bazaar' it's a blog on 'colour' - there are lots of tips for decorating your rooms - kitchens, offices, anything to do with interior designs and colour is here!

Here's some others that are great for ideas:
'Design Fluff' - good for inspirational pics and diy projects
effortless style - great for diy and before and after projects
Caitlin Wilson Design - LOVE this blog and her textiles are divine!
- Belle Maison - sharing fabulous finds and articles for the home
- Bryn Alexandra - a beautiful blog!
- Home Trends Utah - lots of inspirational ideas

AND THEN THERE WAS.... pinterest....if you haven't perused the loveliness of pinterest, now's the time to start! You can set up a 'pinboard' for absolutely anything! Great for all those pictures of your dream home - when you come across something you like on the web you can 'pin it' to your board and come back and add to it later.  You really can have a board on anything you like - I wish I had discovered it before my wedding, it's such a fantastic tool for having all your ideas in ones spot, and it frees up your bookmarks tab on your computer.

For those that have an ipad there's a fantastic app for home decorating called houzz. The app lets you peruse countless images of homes, rooms and home decorating things and lets you save them to your ideas book. Best of all this app is FREE! There are lots of builders and architects on here too that you can 'follow' and ask questions about jobs they have done. A great site to gather your thoughts about projects and save your favourite images for later.

and here's a little from me - my inspiration - things I am constantly drawn to when it come to home styling....

I love large chairs and am hunting around for an old wingback chair. I love the grandeur of them - to be able to sit back with a wine and chill with a book is a great end to a busy day. I love bold cushions too like the navy one above. Moroccan prints - so chic and stylish - are very 'in' at the moment and I have a stash of beautiful fabric prints to cut into and create some beautiful cushions!

Functional pieces: One of my favourite things in our home - our wine rack from Ikea - I love it - beautiful and functional at the same time! (all for $15!)

and finally here's some new homewares I've been working on for pink tulip. I love beautiful table linens and used some designer home decor fabric to handcraft these placemats which are backed in linen. The table runner below is also backed in linen - I love ♥♥♥♥ the print for the runner and don't want to part with this piece!

Happy Home Styling!
