Chevron Love....

Funky and loud, 'chevrons' for me are a favourite! The chevron pattern is so bright and fresh - they are to me what biccies are to milk, spring is to steps, zigs are to zags - they're so modern and versatile! Chevrons are everywhere at the moment especially in the home decorating scene; they're a great way to freshen a dull room or add accents to plain furniture.

We had some lovely chevron fabric arrive at pink tulip designs, so I made these lovely cushions last week....they're 100% cotton with the chevrons printed onto the fabric. There are other fabrics available in this lovely design however most are made from polyester - we made ours from cotton for easy washing and I think natural fibres are much more comfortable for home furnishings than polyester. I have some lovelies coming in yellow too...

I loved the chevron fabric so much that when the latest line of new quilting fabrics came out in colourful chevron prints, I knew they'd be perfect for little man shorts - very different for boys and very modern....we've picked the yellow, navy, red, aqua and pink (girls need shorts too!). These will be heading to the Cotter's markets over the coming weeks and the North Qld Babies and Kids market in May. We have a couple of other designs up our sleeves between now and then and they'll be added to our store soon.

So as I hunted around for my chevron fabric and did a little research into them I found some interesting things.....
* According to Wikipedia... The chevron occurred in early pottery and rock carvings, found approximately 1800BC in Greece........such an old age for a pattern that's so modern in appearance!

* How to wear chevrons stylishly....checkout this beautiful pleated skirt tutorial at http://www.u-createcrafts.com  It's a very easy pattern for beginners so if you've never sewn before why not give it a go!?! I love the versatility of this pattern, it'd look great in any bold fabric even sailor stripes.

* Home furnishing inspiration:  My favourite colour in chevrons has to be pink and aqua - love this vibrant chair! Perfect for a plain white room...
