It's been a long while since I've hit the sewing machines to sew something for myself. I have a wedding to go to on the weekend and thought it was an opportune time to dust off the machines, pull out some fabric from the stash and get sewing again.
One of my favourite patterns of all time is the Cynthia Rowley 2497 pattern from Simplicity. I have made this dress a number of times and love the shape and fit of it. It's a classy dress perfect for a wedding and very easy to sew.
I've previously made this dress in a navy coloured cotton poplin, a purple silk and this time I've decided on a coral cotton sateen. I really like the sheen of sateen and cotton is comfy in our north Queensland climate. It's already quite humid and it's only the end of August!
I've found a couple of lovely sewing blogs too that have reviewed the pattern with both seamstresses altering the pattern by moving the side zipper to the rear of the dress. You can find all the info on the pattern reviews and moving the zip here , many thanks to the Slapdash Sewist and 'no time to sew', moving the zip was a light bulb moment! As such, I've decided to do the same as I always found the fabric to slightly pucker out at the side with the zip. It also made it harder to take in the side seams when I adjusted the fit on the sides of the navy dress.
I'll post some pics of the final dress at the end of the week (yes it's Monday and I aim to finish the dress by Thursday eeek!)!
Wish me luck and Happy Sewing! x
